APEC to strengthen efforts to strengthen women’s participation in the economy

Jakarta (ANTARA) – APEC ministers and high-level representatives from 21 member economies issued a statement that aims to boost efforts to strengthen women’s participation in the economy.The results of the APEC Women and the Economy Forum statement in 2022 reflect concerns about the widening gap and increasing inequality for women and underline the urgent need to step up efforts to empower them, their meaningful participation in the economy and improve their livelihoods, according to a release released Thursday by the APEC Women and the Economy Forum.

The 2022 APEC Women and the Economy Forum was held in Bangkok, Thailand, and was chaired by Chuti Krairiksh, Thailand’s Minister of Social Development and Human Security.

The statement also reiterates its commitments to promote gender equality, women’s empowerment and a sustainable and inclusive recovery and calls on all APEC members to continue working towards the goal of empowering women in the economy.

The statement describes the strong support of APEC members to promote meaningful actions with consensus in the following areas.

The first focus area is to accelerate the implementation of the La Serena Roadmap for Women and Inclusive Growth in the period 2019-2030.

The second aspect to be prioritized is the recognition that women and girls can develop meaningful, effective and relevant solutions to advance the bio-circular-green economy model.
