DLA Piper Law Firm Hires Veteran to Expand Johannesburg Financial Practice

DLA Piper has appointed a new legal director for its finance, projects and restructuring team in Johannesburg.

Amelia Heeger joins the firm after a 23-year legal career during which she gained a mix of experience or worked both in-house and in private practice. Before spending the last two years as a freelance legal advisor, she spent eight years working in-house at the Rand Merchant Bank in South Africa.

Before her internal move, she was a partner at Baker McKenzie for two years, previously at Werksmans Advocaten in Johannesburg for 13 years, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Among other things, she advised on the refinancing of various projects in the context of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Program in South Africa.

The firm’s latest hire in Johannesburg follows regulatory attorney Bridget King in 2021 and insolvency and restructuring attorney Nicola Nolan in 2020.
