Pitt has awarded $2.2 million to help the regional economy grow

Pitt was promised $2.2 million as part of Joe Biden’s Build back a better regional challenge. Biden designed this challenge to help build regional economies after the pandemic. The White House indicated the total grant of $62.7 million: the Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Collaborativeand Pitt received a share of the total.

The funding will help Pitt invest in small businesses and displaced workers by expanding education and training initiatives for workers in southwestern Pennsylvania interested in robotics and AI in the region.

The application for the prize focused on the negative effects of the decline in steel production in the region and the budding robotics and automation industry. According to Stefani Pashman, CEO of the Allegheny Community Development Conferencethe plan will generate more than $550 million in regional gross domestic product.
