Varsity Wins 2022 National Competition Award on Entrepreneurship

A team of students from Enactus Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria becomes the National Champion of the 2022 National Competition Award hosted by Enactus Nigeria, a leading international non-profit organization dedicated to youth leadership and enterprise development.

Team of Tai Solarin University of Education came in second in the awards category.

Despite the strike of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), the Enactus team in Nigeria, made up of students from tertiary institutions from all backgrounds and disciplines, has invested time and other resources over the past year to develop and implement social startups with great opportunities to empower individuals,

transforming communities, creating jobs and wealth while improving the quality of life and living standards of people in communities across the country.

Country Director, Enactus Nigeria, Mr. Michael Ajayi, stated that, “Like all the other national competitions that preceded it, the Enactus Nigeria National Competition 2022 this

resourceful and dynamic students (social innovators) the chance to showcase the impact of their efforts over the past year to a jury composed of CEOs from top business organizations in Nigeria.

He further stated that “a total of 16 Enactus university teams took part in this exciting and energetic event that took place over three phases. The opening round and semi-finals were held as virtual events between July 26-28, 2022, while the final round was held as an in-person event attended by top executives, students, educators and dignitaries in Nigeria, in Lagos on August 30th 2022.

“At the end of the three phases of the entrepreneurial competition, the Enactus Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria team with two most innovative and impactful social enterprises, namely PUP Industries and Tompa, was named Enactus Nigeria National Champion 2022 and will represent Nigeria at the prestigious international competition, Enactus World Cup, held in San Juan, Puerto Rico between October 30 and November 2, 2022.”

Plastic Up-cycled Products (PUP) Industries is a social enterprise tackling local plastic waste in Kaduna State, Nigeria and around the world by upcycling plastics into higher-value products, such as Nigeria’s first shoe polish , PUP polish and PUP board.
